Women's Health Consultations
What Is a Women's Health Consultation?
A Women's Health Consultation at JBH is a 40-minute appointment dedicated entirely to you. It is a space to talk openly about your symptoms, your medical history, and your health goals, with a clinician who has the time, training, and genuine interest to listen.
During your consultation we will discuss what is happening in your body, what is changing, and what your options are. From there, we work with you to create a personalised, holistic and ethical plan that fits your stage of life, your lifestyle, and your long-term wellbeing.
What Your Consultation Can Cover
Your consultation is shaped around what you need most, but commonly includes:
Perimenopause and menopause management, with assessment of symptoms and personalised treatment options including hormone replacement therapy (HRT), body-identical hormones, and non-hormonal medications where appropriate.
Contraceptive care, including counselling and procedures for intrauterine devices (IUDs) and contraceptive implants (Implanon).
Cervical screening (Pap smear) and general preventative health checks.
Vaginal and sexual health, including concerns such as dryness, discomfort, recurrent infections, and changes related to hormonal shifts.
Menstrual concerns, mood, sleep, and overall wellbeing, with a focus on understanding the bigger picture of what your body is telling you.
Iron infusions, available with Dr Miriam for women experiencing iron deficiency or low ferritin.
Where required, pathology, imaging, or referrals to specialists can be arranged as part of your care.
Understanding Your Hormonal Journey
Hormonal change is one of the most significant transitions a woman's body moves through, yet it is one of the least talked about. Understanding what is happening, and why, is the first step to feeling more in control of your health.
Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause and can begin as early as your late thirties, though it more commonly starts in your forties. During this time, oestrogen and progesterone levels begin to fluctuate, which can cause irregular periods, sleep disturbance, mood changes, brain fog, hot flushes, and shifts in how your skin and hair look and feel. Perimenopause can last anywhere from a few years to a decade.
Menopause is officially reached when you have gone twelve consecutive months without a menstrual period. In Australia, the average age of menopause is 51, with a typical range between 45 and 55.
Post-menopause refers to the years that follow. While many of the more disruptive symptoms ease over time, ongoing hormonal change can continue to influence bone health, cardiovascular health, vaginal and urinary health, and the skin.
This is not a phase to push through quietly. It is a transition that deserves the right support, the right information, and a clinician who understands the full picture.
The Connection Between Hormones and Your Skin
As a clinical skin and cosmetic practice, we see every day how closely hormonal health and skin health are connected. Shifts in oestrogen, progesterone, and testosterone can influence collagen production, skin hydration, oil flow, pigmentation, and overall skin firmness.
Many women notice their skin feels drier, more sensitive, or less resilient through perimenopause and menopause. Some experience new breakouts, increased pigmentation, or a loss of the plumpness their skin used to hold naturally.
Caring for your skin during this time is not about chasing youth. It is about supporting your skin barrier, maintaining healthy function, and helping you feel comfortable and confident in your skin. Where appropriate, we can integrate guidance on pharmaceutical-grade skincare and clinical treatments to complement your women's health care, all within the one trusted team.

What to Expect From Your Appointment
Your first Women's Health Consultation is unhurried by design. We will take a detailed medical history, discuss your current symptoms and concerns, and talk through your goals for your health.
From there, depending on what is most appropriate for you, we may recommend pathology, imaging, treatment options, a follow-up plan, or referrals to specialists. You will leave with clarity on what is happening, what your options are, and what your next step looks like.
You are welcome to bring a written list of questions or symptoms to your appointment. Many women find it helpful to track their cycle, sleep, mood, or other symptoms in the weeks leading up to their consultation.
